One Month! | Quincey Nox

We’ve survived our first month as a family of seven! Yey!!

Ah, Mr. Quincey…

Size: He’s 8lbs 13oz and 21 inches long! He wears size newborn clothes and newborn diapers.

Eating: Exclusively breastfed. He pretty much never stops eating. He also spits up a lot too.

Sleep: No schedule yet, he pretty much eats all the time during the day but at night he will do 2-3 hour stretches. He likes to be wrapped tightly, and be warm while sleeping. Currently he sleeps in our bed. It’s hard to get him to stay asleep for longer than a few minutes, so once we succeed he stays wherever it was that he fell asleep at.

Comfort items: He isn’t hugely fond of the pacifier. He does try to get his thumb in his mouth, but he’s not successful. So basically it’s mama.

Milestones: He’s starting to smile!

28 Week | Baby Q

A friend asked me to do more pregnancy updates on the blog. So here you go.

Baby Quincy is now 28 weeks along. We’ve now hit the THIRD trimester! Yey!

For the most part this pregnancy has been rather uneventful, symptom wise.

But at 23 weeks I went in for my anatomy scan, and it was just about the weirdest ultrasound I’ve ever had.

It started with the doctor saying, “You’re here for a 20 week scan?” Yes. “You’re TWENTY weeks?” No, I’m 23 weeks. “Oh, wow, you’re really small!” Thanks?

Then he was getting everything set up and he goes, “Wait, have you had a c-section?” Yup, two of them. “You’ve had TWO of them?!” (Puts his face inches from my c-section incision) “Wow, you’ve got great skin! You healed really well.” Again, thanks? Please get away from my incision and focus on my belly.

Anyhow, Quincy measured right where he should, and his head measured 4 days bigger than his body. So another big brained baby is in my future. He’s still a boy, and he has all his vital organs and they look amazing. And then I got asked the weirdest question ever.

“Have you ever been told you have a short cervix?”

Um, no. What does that mean?

“Well, it could be indicative of preterm labor. If you make it the third trimester you should have it rechecked.”

Um, IF?! I had 5 weeks left. Are you telling me I’m going to have a micro premie in the next five weeks?!

Wonderful. Anyway, talked to my midwife, looked up the info from all previous ultrasounds, and we’ve come to the conclusion that I’m probably just fine. With Ruby I was short and dilating at 36 weeks and still went another 4 weeks. So, Baby Q, you’d better stay in there for another 8 weeks minimum.

Anyhow, here are some stats for you:

Total weight gain? 10 lbs. Which made WIC really unhappy. Apparently I need to up my calorie intake so I fit into the grey area of their chart. Not happening!

Maternity clothes? Yes, I’ve been wearing the shirts for a while. But I finally gave in and started wearing the pants.

Stretch marks? Nothing new. I haven’t had any new ones since Audrey.

Sleep? Thanks to my Cal/Mag supplement GREAT. I’m still exhausted though.

Best moment this week? Making it to the third trimester! Seriously, such a relief!

Miss anything? Breathing normally.

Movement? He’s finally starting to move a lot! Jordan even got to feel him! He’s still not super crazy like several of my babies, but he wiggles.

Food cravings? Poptarts, Circus cookies, Rainbow goldfish. Basically every 2 year old’s dream food.

Anything making you feel sick or queasy? Nope.

Showing? Yup.

Gender? Boy!

Labor signs? None.

Symptoms? Heartburn. Burning all the hair off my baby.

Belly button in or out? In. When I had my endometrosis surgery in 2014 they glued my belly button back together very nicely. So it’s way cuter than it was after my first three babies. That was very kind of Dr. C 😉

Wedding ring on or off? On.

Happy or moody most of the time? Happy, just tired from severe anemia.

Looking forward to: Starting Q’s blanket!

One Year Old! | Ruby Lyndis

First birthdays are hard on me. I can’t believe how quickly it flies by! The days are so long sometimes, but the years are so short!

Anyhow, Miss Ruby is now ONE.

This year I gave a hair flip to tradition and decided to have a birthday party at our house instead of going to Izzy’s Pizza. Because I just didn’t feel like it. Her party was also the day AFTER her birthday. Ooooo.

And you know what? It was awesome.

Ruby got to run around our living room being held by various family members, she got to take her time with her cake and really enjoy it. She got to sit on the floor with me and open her presents. Or rather, sit in the boxes, because kids and cats are pretty alike when they are one.

I seriously cannot believe that the first year is already over.

In the last month she’s really started to walk everywhere.

She finally started to sleep in her OWN bed. Bittersweet.

When we tell Ruby “no” she smiles and waves at us. Then tries to do it anyway.

She is a HUGE fan of bathtime.

Whenever you pick her up she rests her head on your shoulder. And if you aren’t moving she will start to kick you.

She says uh-oh, loves food of all kinds.

Refuses to give up the bottle yet. Whatever.

Loves her pacifier but if she can’t find it she will suck on her thumb.

At 1 year she weighs 17lbs 4oz, and 29.5 inches long. Petite and perfect. She has four teeth.

Happy birthday, sweet Ruby Roo! We love you so much, and are so happy you are part of our family!!

11 Months | Ruby Lyndis

Well, this is the last month of Ruby’s first year.

And it’s very sad to me to think that she’s almost a year!!

She is very independent in most things.

This month we moved! We bought a house in Battle Ground, and Ruby is loving crawling up the stairs. In this house she has her own room (it’s a half room), it took a couple of nights to get her to sleep in it, but it finally happened.

She loves to say “ooooo” to just about everything.

When she doesn’t like something she does what we call the “devil banshee scream.” The name is pretty self explanatory.

She’s figured out how to hold her bottle while sitting up.

When she is really hungry and you are shaking the bottle she will spit out her pacifier and throw it across the room.

She also throws the pacifier when she isn’t ready for sleeping and she thinks you’re going to make her go to sleep.

Throws the bottle when it’s empty or doesn’t want it anymore. Apparently she likes to throw.

Just discovered books!

Loves to give mama kisses.

My first child to not be afraid of the vacuum

Wasn’t afraid of Santa. Wasn’t particularly fond of him, but no tears.

Loves to pull things out of drawers.

Starting to climb more every day.

Starting to gain more confidence with walking.

Finally got two more teeth on December 26th, 2015.

I can’t believe that next month she’s going to be ONE. This little girl has brought so much joy and laughter into our lives over the past 11 months.

10 Months! | Ruby Lyndis

This is another month in which we are going to pretend that I’m on it 😉

This month has been very exhausting! We are in the process of buying a house, and really I feel like that is a full time job! I’ve pretty much sworn that I’m never doing it again.

Anyhow, my baby is really cute.

This last month introduced us to a few new things with Miss Ruby.

Ruby celebrated her first Halloween, and her first costume was a representation of the Gryffindor house at Hogwarts. She makes mama proud 😉

She also celebrated her first Thanksgiving, she enjoyed eating all the yummy foods! Mashed potatoes, yams, and rolls were her favorites.

She started letting go of furniture and leaning with her bum against the couch. Eventually this turned into her “trying” to walk, which was basically her belly flopping onto the floor and becoming very irritated.

She hates pants!

She figured out how to climb up the stairs.

She has taken a few steps unassisted, if she’s properly motivated.

No new teeth yet, but it looks like we are working on those top teeth.

She has figured out how to pull on her hair bows. Which means she usually snaps herself in the face.

I’ve convinced Jordan to keep her bows on during church. The compromise is that she won’t wear one the other days of the week, or the rest of the day on Sunday. Only during church. This deal does have the clause about monthly photos being taken.

She doesn’t try to suck her thumb anymore. She’s purely a binkie baby.

When she gets angry about being put in her crib she throws her binkie or bottle out of the crib. Then screams because she actually wanted those.

She’s FINALLY settled down into something that resembles a routine. She is usually awake at 8 am, eats, then plays until about 11 in which it is time for a short 30-60 minute nap. Eat around 1, play, sleep at 3 until about 5, play until 8. Bedtime seems to be either 8 or 10 depending on her mood. Occasionally she will fall asleep on her own, but on the days where she can’t I’m enjoy the snuggles. She claps about everything. If something makes a big noise she says, “Ooooo.” She waves, in the sense that she sticks her hand out. No actual movement yet, so we joke that she’s saying, “Goodbye, peasants! Your queen is leaving now.”Oh, and guess what? Ruby’s going to be a BIG SISTER in May! <3DSC_7519

Nine Months Old | Ruby Lyndis

Look! It’s still October, so I’m doing pretty good. And this picture was taken ON her 9th month, so I’m doing REALLY good.

Do you recognize that bed? Nope, it’s not mine. But it’s the same bed that I was on while I had my maternity pictures taken, NINE MONTHS AGO!

But seriously, my baby is now nine months old. Just no, not cool, Miss Ruby.

Ruby loves to be sang to, her favorite is Fall Out Boy. I usually sing “Alone Together” while I rock her to sleep.

Ruby also likes to dance to Fall Out Boy, especially “Phoenix.” Okay…maybe I just like Fall Out Boy and I listen to them often. But it’s why my kids like my music 😉

She is doing better on the sleep front. I feel badly for complaining that she’s my worst sleeper, because in reality she isn’t a bad sleeper. But her 3 older siblings were fantastic sleepers. She’s just not fantastic at sleeping yet.

But she did sleep in her own bed for an entire week, she went to sleep in it and woke up 10 hours later in it. Which is pretty awesome.

She loves fleece blankets. I hate fleece, so Jordan (and probably my Gramma) get a good laugh about it.

She’s not so much a thumb sucker anymore, and is a big fan of her pacifier.

She doesn’t like pureed food, but loves table food. Jordan is awesome at feeding her things off his plate. She loves beans!

She has started to tease her brother, and she LOVES making him angry. He is definitely her favorite person and if he pays her any attention she’s laughing up a storm.

She got TWO teeth this month!

This month she got to go to the pumpkin patch.

This girl can be such a calm, patient little thing. And luckily she chooses pretty good times to do that. But most of the time she wants to be on the floor getting into EVERYTHING. She loves CDs, she loves to clap her hands, pull herself up on anything and everything, she is constantly moving around!

8 Months! | Ruby Lyndis

We are going to pretend I’m on top of this. But honestly, she’s almost 9 months, so this post is a wee bit late.

Anyhow, Ruby turned 8 months!web

This sweet girl can pull herself to a stand, sit, and sometimes crawl on her hands and knees. But usually she prefers to army crawl.

She loves to get into things, paper being her favorite.

No teeth yet.

Wearing size 6 months clothes still.

Zachary is her favorite, she always has a smile for him.

She clicks her tongue, but uses the back of her tongue and not the front. We spent a while trying to figure out how to do that.

She still isn’t a great sleeper. She now stays up until 10 or 11 playing until she passes out. Life is apparently way too much fun.

She loves Cherrios.

Not a big fan of squash, but will now accept bananas.

She scrunches her noses and gives a really cheesy smile when she’s excited.

7 Months | Ruby Lyndis

This baby is now SEVEN months old. We are closer to her first birthday than we are to the day she was born. Crazy, huh?

On August 8th, 2015 she started to crawl. She’s now into EVERYTHING and is so busy. She also takes way more naps because crawling all over the place is apparently exhausting.

She showed no interest in sitting, and every time you’d make her sit she’d instantly stand up.

Since we are now crawling, bathtime needed some changes, so I put her in a laundry basket during her bath. She loved it, but was more interested in trying to stand up rather than her normal splash fest.

Still a hair puller. But can now add hair licker to her resume. She always tries to eat my hair!

She has eaten pears, carrots, sweet potatoes, green beans, bananas and apple sauce. She didn’t like pears very much. Hates green beans and bananas. Loved carrots but threw up both times she had them (try it again later.) She also loves sweet peas and apple sauce.

She accidentally had her first taste of ice cream this month, when she attacked and sucked it down as quickly as she possibly could.

She loves to babble!

She is the happiest little girl I’ve ever met. She only cries when she’s hungry or tired. Otherwise she’s full of smiles and giggles. And often, slobbery kisses!

She thinks her siblings are funny and often smiles when they come in the room.

She wakes me up every morning by licking my face and laughing.

She sleeps in her own bed from 9:00 p.m. until about midnight and then she gets lonely and comes snuggle with me until 7 when she eats and takes a morning nap.

6 Months Old! | Ruby Lyndis

I give up, I’m a broken record. But I will never understand how my babies can grow so quickly! They grow up so fast!! Time could really slow down now and I’d be totally cool with it.

Miss Ruby is now half a year old! Can you believe it?!

She babbles all the time.

Is a pro at rolling over and uses it to get around.

The first thing she does to the person holding her is pull their hair.

Then she tries to eat their hair.

She will only take a pacifier if she’s sleepy.

Otherwise she’s a thumb sucker, with no preference (usually it’s the right thumb but she doesn’t care.)

She smiles when you talk to her.

She’s ticklish!

She adores her big brother.

Is terrified of her Audrey.

Smiles at her Sydney.

Mama is one of the only people she will let put her to sleep.

She still sleeps in our bed.

This month she got to travel to Idaho and watch her Uncle Ryan graduate from BYU-I, and while there she got to meet all her aunts and uncles (and cousin!) on the Sherman side.

No teeth.

Hates bananas, but will eat a few bites of sweet potatoes.

Got to go swimming for the first time, she LOVED it.

She weights 15lbs 8oz and is 26 inches long.

8 Years Old! | Sydney Capri

Sydney Capri is now 8 years old!!! How is that possible?

My first born baby is amazing. She is brilliant, sassy, and loves to read.

She woke me up on her birthday asking me, “Where’s the first Harry Potter book?!” (I’ve told her since she was small that she can’t read the books until she turns 8.)

This year she has suddenly turned shy when she’s around anyone but immediate family.

She also developed this highly over exaggerated (and loud!) laugh that she swears is her real laugh.

She stays up most nights later than I do reading all night, so now she tries to sleep in.

She is 3’10” tall.

She decided this year that she would just take tap, instead of the years previous in which she took tap and ballet.

During her first tap focus class of the school year she came home crying because someone told her she was short. Apparently she didn’t know she was short, seeings as we homeschool and she’s the 3rd tallest in our family 😉

She still takes piano lessons.

She loves to swim!

She was able to get a pumpkin in the bucket at BIZI Farm’s pumpkin launch!

We bought Hocus Pocus and watched it with the kids, I mentioned that I’ve never seen the movie all the way through I’d always fall asleep. When the movie was over Sydney asked me why I fell asleep, because it’s such a great movie. I told her the commercials would come on and I’d be out. “What’s a commercial?”

We had a few snow flakes fall from the sky and Sydney sat next to the window singing, “Let it snow!”

Mama: Who won the battle between Alfred the Great and the Vikings?
Sydney: Aslan the Great.

We walked the Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving (5k) and on the way home Sydney was falling asleep in the car. When we tried to keep her awake she said, “Just let me blink!” They were very long blinks.

Sydney: 15-8 is hard!
Me: It’s 7, it was one of the ones I just had to memorize.
Sydney: Are you sure it’s 7?
Me: Yes.
Sydney: How can you be sure?
Me: I passed the 2nd grade.

She questions everything and everyone, which is a great trait to have…in 10 years.

She held an alligator.

She lost 4 teeth this year, including her front two teeth.

As always I am in awe of this beautiful girl I’ve been blessed with. She is brilliant, gorgeous, caring and sweet. She is the best big sister I’ve ever met, and her younger siblings are lucky to have her as their ring leader.
